's go to jeff ranieri with what's happening right now. >> a lot of rain in northern california. it's not just here in the bay area, but a good section of california. you can see on the estimated rainfall over the past 24 hours is covered in this dark green. that's at least three inches of rainfall. a lot of the river basins can't take any more. it's not just here, but again all the way up to the north of the rivers drained throughout redding, red bluff and chico and down into the bay area. everything is getting close. let's look at the maximum rainfall totals. in the north bay over eight inches. one of the highest. santa cruz mountains nearly 3 1/2. in the south bay, a very high total even for 3,486 feet, 7.24 is astonishing when you think about 24 hours. we will be under a flash flood watch for the north bay and the coastline with our next storm system coming in. we could see totals range from two to four inches. we are not done yet. it taps into a lot of moisture and we will detail when the rain moves in and where the biggest concerns are later on in the show. >> there several pa

jones in the north bay. we mentioned our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri mentioned parts of sonoma county getting more than 8 inches of rain. let's brit in nbc bay area's cheryl hurd who joins us from the marin headlands. cheryl? >> reporter: we're live here in the marin headlands the commute on the golden gate looks fine. the stormy weather caused a lot of problems for a lot of people here in the north bay. the effects from this storm started early this morning. the lights went out on the bay bridge around 5:30. that power outage caused the metering lights to go down for two hours. putting the bridge and commuters into darkness, making the commute messy, slow, and dangerous. the north bay got the brunt of this storm. heavy rain toppled trees on to roadways and turned roads into small rivers. this is what it looked like on highway 1 near rohnert park. cars had nowhere to go but into flooding water. people in marin county are used to heavy rain and wind when it comes. >> last night trees were banging up against the wall. i mean the outside of the house and light flashing. so, you kn

strong storm coming up a little later on in the show. >> eye-opening numbers, jeff. thank you. rain, saturation and flooding. it's a problem for several parts of the bay area. that's why there's concern going into this weekend. here now is nbc bay area's marianne favro from san jose. >> reporter: chain saws were needed to remove a large ash tray from the walk way of this los altos home. it came crashing down this morning thanks to heavy winds. high winds also caused this power pole to slope, causing high-voltage lines to sag here on alpine road near palo alto. not motorists had to defor more than an hour. if you weren't sitting and waiting if your car today, then you were likely getting splashed. this section of coleman road in san jose was covered with several inches of rain. just one of many flooded areas in the south bay. and here on highway 87 a motorist was stranded as rain came down in sheets. >> i see pretty much accidents on the freeway right now. so i have to drive slow. i don't know. people don't know how to handle it. they drive too fast. >> reporter: while strip mall par

's also the proud parent when it comes to his sons mark and jeff, who work side by side with him in his quest to make the best pinot noir. today, they're dropping fruit. here's one to. too much green. at this time of year if all the grapes aren't completely purple, we drop the fruit, because we want to intensify the flavors, and we don't want to have any, um, green flavors. we're almost all the way done with the veration now. mark is the vineyard manager. i'm the farmer of the family, so, i uh, i kinda keep things alive. yeah these are pretty far behind. jeff's the winemaker at pisoni. i take it this is the section you watered more. yeah it is. he's been making wine since he was 3 years old. i used to bring him milk now he brings me wine-how's that for a deal. he's probably the best boss anyone could have what do you think mark what do you think jeff? they tell me what they think, i tell them what i think, we have a little bit of an argument and we kind of have a resolution another vintage of the century. winemaking and grape growing certainly run in this family. a couple green clusters

studio tucked into the trees in calistoga, jeff and sally manfredi practice an ancient art, making handcrafte d pottery.we're very happy to be making things that are useful and strong and good. stop by the studio and you can watch the manfredis turn hunks of clay...i'm letting the clay know its about time to do something.into beautiful stoneware.jeff throws the pots...his skillful hands molding clay into vases and bowls that blend form and function.i keep my thumb here it helps to compress and give a nice detail to the lip.this is where everything gets fired the first time.the pieces are kiln-dried...and then sally takes over, gazing and decorating the pots.what i'm doing is carving...basically scratching off the glaze and the waxhere she's inlaying a barnyard design into a mixing bowl.hopefully people will be using these things for a long time and making up their own stories looking at these animals.then you open it up. it's a team effort...from the first throw to the final firing.im doing the part he doesn't really love, that i love, and he's doing the part that i don't really do
